About the Event
One of ABC missions is to see more diversity on the Ice, in fact in all sports. We are calling this event ‘Soulful Ice Breakers’ and is being held with the support of the Central York Girls Hockey Association and Sport Aurora. All Adults and children are welcome, and you are responsible to bring your own skates.
Many barriers to healthy activity for us have been broken but we don’t see enough growth and all it takes is some encouragement and good supervision. We want to promote this event within our Community and enable people to participate. Did you know that the first Black person allowed in NBA Basketball was in the 50s (if i remember correctly) and now Blacks represents over 70% of the players? Amazing growth for sure, but we don’t see that growth in hockey or figure skating nearly as much.
Even if it's just for leisure time or social activity, it's essential for parents (especially immigrants) to get more involved in winter sports. Especially in a country where the winter is much longer than the summer time!
IF YOU'D LIKE TO VOLUNTEER ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON TO HELP TRAINING, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH (below)
IF YOU'D LIKE TO LEARN HOW TO SKATE OR JUST HAVE FUN ON THE ICE, PLEASE RSVP. (below)
